A Winter's Tale
words and music by Udo Klopke
In a long forgotten land, kingdoms come and passed since then
Mighty nights fought for lady´s hands, and fame and wealth really made a man
Around the fires, when the years turned cold, one of those tales been often told
was about two lovers, they´re long gone, the princess and the farmer´s son
She caught his eye on a winter´s day, he made her smile in a different way
Than any other man had done before, that very day they fell in love
Reckless nights in a secret place, suspicious smiles in almost every face
Jealous sun in a lonely sky, fades in favour of a man´s desire
„Take me with you“, she said. „Take me with you, I am not afraid.“
„Take me far away from here, to have a future. Anywhere.“
But they were caught by the castleguards, brought to the landlord, for he might judge.
„Blind his eyes, and chase him out of town“, was the verdict, that he found.
Now only minutes remained, she said: “I´ll wait for you, might it be invane“.
And through a veil of her bitter tears, she heard him whispering in her ear.
„I´m a fire in the cold. I´m a tale, never told. I´m a dream, I´m gone before the dawn.
And like a wave upon the sea, I´m rolling on, endlessly. For one day I will be back with you.“
Years have passed all along his way. Countless roads, he couldn´t say.
He crossed the land ´bout a dozen times, sayed her name ´round a thousand fires.
In hope for shelter from the cold he came knocking at a cloister door, and there she was, she has
always been. A lifetime waiting, just for him.
„I´m a fire in the cold. I´m a tale, never told. I´m a dream, I´m gone before the dawn.
And like a wave upon the sea, I´m rolling on, endlessly. For one day I will be back with you.“
„I´m a fire in the cold. I´m a tale, never told. I´m a dream, I´m gone before the dawn.
Like a wave upon the sea, I´m rolling on, endlessly. For one day I will be back with you.“
„Like a wave upon the sea, I´m rolling on, endlessly. For one day I will be back with you.
For one day I will be back with you.“
